The turning effect produced by a force on the body , on which it acts is known as moment of force. Formula to calculate moment: M=P*l where, M=Moment of force P=Force acting on the body l=Perpendicular distance between the point about which the moment is required and the line of the action of the force Types of moment The moment can be classified into two categories. They are: 1.Clockwise Moment 2.Anticlockwise Moment 1.Clockwise Moment: It is the moment of a force , whose effect is to turn or rotate the body , in the same direction in which the hands of a clock move. 2.Anticlockwise Moment: It is the moment of a force , whose effect is to turn or rotate the body , in the opposite direction in which the hands of a clock move.
